CHC News & Upcoming Events for Fall 2017

News
Yes, we’re still alive! We apologize for the long delay in announcements and events. The Charleston Humanist Community is run entirely by volunteers, and our core volunteers have all been going through major personal life changes that have kept them too busy for CHC work. But our hearts are still in it!

Notes from our annual business meeting in June:

  • We decided to not renew our incorporated status with the state of West Virginia. We can file for it again in the future when we are more actively fundraising and working toward our goals of becoming a federally tax-exempt nonprofit organization and having a physical location to use as headquarters. But at present we are simply a casually organized social group.
  • We further decided to do away, at least temporarily, with the structure of having officers. Instead we’ll let our official structure match our current reality, which is that we have one main organizer, Anna Eplin, who collaborates with as many volunteers as she can get to keep the group running.

We can always use more volunteers, especially for helping us plan and organize events, so let us know if you’re interested in being a part of the team.

Upcoming Events

Note: Dates and times are subject to change. Please check the latest information on our website and social media pages (Facebook and Meetup) for any updates. We will also do our best to send out emails for any changes or updates to events.

2nd Saturdays Dinner at Plaza Maya

Supper Club
Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, 6:00pm
Private residence; RSVP for the address.

Our new “supper club” events, dreamed up by one of our members, will work like this: someone volunteers to host a supper club event at their house and gives a number of guests they can host. RSVPS* are first-come-first-serve, and the event is closed to new RSVPs after the spaces are filled. The host also picks a theme and provides a main dish, and guests bring a complementary side.

For this first event, our hosts have chosen an Italian theme and will serve homemade pasta and meatballs; guests can bring salads, bread sticks, dessert, and wine. Their limit is 8 guests. RSVP to reserve your spot!

*You may RSVP via Facebook, Meetup, or by emailing us or calling 304-941-3778; we will count the total number of people who have RSVP’d across all avenues.
